tan care

because we care

Preparation

DAY BEFORE

Wax/Shave Any Unwanted Body Hair | Waxing should be completed at least 48 hours before your appointment. Shaving should be completed at least 24 hours before your appointment with a razor that lacks moisture strip.

Exfoliate Entire Body with a Charcoal Mitt | We advise against using a body scrub loofah combo as most are oil-based and will leave a residue.

Complete Manicure/Pedicure | If completing the day of the tan, we advise you to avoid any oils or lotions that your technician might apply on you. If completed days after tan, your tan may become uneven due to soaking, acetone, oils, lotions, etc. that your nail tech might apply on you.

Avoid using Any Bar Soaps or Cream-Based Washes | Any bar soaps or cream-based body wash (Dove in particular) are known to leave a residue on the skin and can create a barrier that the tan will not penetrate though and may leave streaks. Any gel-based body wash is best. Showering should be be completed at least THREE hours before tanning to allow your pH levels to neutralize. If you must shower within three hours, run cool water (colder the better) at the end of your shower to close up your pores.

Complete Any Spa Facial/Massage Treatments | Tanning should ALWAYS be the last beauty treatment completed due to the barriers that spa treatment products can create.

DAY OF

Do No Apply Any Lotions, Moisturizers, Oils, Deodorant, Perfumes, or Makeup | All of these can create a barrier on the skin that the tan will not adhere too. If you have any of these products on, use a micellar wipe to remove. Do Not use a Neutrogena makeup wipe as they are very oily and will create a barrier.

Wear Dark, Loose-Fitting Clothing with Open-Toed Sandals | The best outfit to wear is a loose dark-colored cotton dress or sweat outfit. Any tight clothing put on immediately after the tan can result in unwanted lines. Please note that the formula bronzer may transfer slightly to your items, but is water-soluble and should wash out.

HOURS AFTER

Do Not Get Wet or Sweaty Until Your Initial Rinse | If you accidentally spill water on yourself or if your pet licks you, take a beauty sponge and very very lightly buff or blend out the tan. You can also use a very small amount of self-tanner on a sponge or makeup brush to help blend. Be aware that the bronzer will not appear "perfect" after, but once rinsed off, the tan will be evened out.

Rinse in Lukewarm Water with No Soap | Most of the bronzer will wash away down the drain, which is normal so don't panic.

Wait Until Your Color is Fully Developed to Moisturize | All tans will take about 24 hours to fully develop. Any products applied to the skin during this time can impede the length of the tan. For best results wait 12 hours before applying moisturizer. The best moisturizer/lotion is free of any artificial fragrances or mineral oils as these will strip a tan very quickly.

Maintenance

2 to 12 HOURS AFTER

Avoid Moisture Until Your Initial Rinse | This means no showering, working out, lotions, or liquid foundations on the skin. If you have pets, do not let them lick!

Do Not Touch Your Body | If you touch yourself while your tan is developing, this could result in bronzed color palms. If you accidentally touch our body, use an exfoliating mitt to lighten your hands.

Standard Tans Must Rinse in 8-9 Hours | You will see visible color after your initial rinse, but you should not moisturize for an additional 12 hours. Rinse with water only - pat dry, do not rub.

Express Tan Must Rinse in 2-4 Hours | You will see visible light color after your initial rinse, you should wait about 12 hours to moisturize. Rinse with water only - pat dry, do not rub.

Rinse At Your Designated Time | If you do not rinse at your designated time, your tan may develop too light or not dark enough. If you streak after getting out of the shower, hop back in and use your hand to guide the leftover bronzer off.

12 HOURS AFTER

Moisturize Morning + Night | The more hydrated your skin is, the longer your tan will last. Your moisturizer should be free of mineral oils and artificial fragrances. Understand that if you use any acne/retinol products, your face may become blotchy. You may use a tan extending lotion that contains DHA after day 3 of your tan.

Avoid Swimming, Long Hot Showers/Baths, Saunas, and Excessive Sweating |   Your tan will not last very long if you are planning to do any of these activities

No Exfoliating Until Tan is At the End Of Its Life | If We advise against using any loofahs or wash rags during your showers. It is best to wash with hands only in areas where needed (personal areas) to ensure a long-lasting tan.
